The DDP 70e Provides the Ultimate In Network Connectivity and Performance
The DDP 70e is supercharged by a powerful, high performance print controller that uses Ricoh’s new Egret controller. The Egret controller has a 375 MHz processor and an improved Ricoh motherboard. This second-generation embedded PowerPC-based printer controller is faster than the previous Everest controller, and its new printer-oriented technology speeds up printing and easily handles other printer requirements such as web services and multiple printer emulations. Using the high-speed memory architecture, the Egret controller provides the horsepower to drive the DDP 70 at its full rated speed. Standard PCL 5e is shipped with the printer and Adobe® PostScript® 3 is available as an option.

The benefits of the Egret controller include:

• The Egret controller is scaleable, providing a platform for future DDP printers that will require higher performance processors.
• Memory access is improved with the Egret controller. It has been designed for printing and has two PCI buses - one that is dedicated to the RIP. The Egret controller utilizes fast PC architecture with a 75 MHz memory bus, which greatly improves the performance.
• Egret’s CPU power improves printing of vector-based application output (such as PowerPoint®).

RPSA’ patented Virtual Printer Technology (VPT®) is an additional feature that may be ordered with the DDP 70e. This feature enables a single printer to offer up to 64 print services or “virtual printers”, each can be individually configured to address environments that do not rely on print drivers, such as Unix.

A built-in web server delivers real-time device monitoring and configuration using common Internet browsers. The DDP 70e provides maximum flexibility for connection to the Ricoh Printing Systems America, Inc.’ powerful DDP MicroPress® server or your standard Ethernet LAN. Interfacing directly with the DDP MicroPress® ClusterServer, the DDP 70e provides optimum performance and high-volume, production printing. You can monitor consumables, supplies and the mechanical status of your DDP 70e and also receive immediate notification of any condition that requires intervention.

Designed for high-volume applications like print on-demand, the DDP 70e can print 1.2 million pages before the printer engine requires a PM. You get capacity far exceeding copier-based network devices typically found in the general office. Web Utilities
The DDP 70e offers web utilities that allow you to access the printer through the Internet or your company’s Intranet. Often, the status of an item is indicated with a color button or graphic. Three colors are used throughout the Web utilities to graphically display the status of various items. Green indicates normal conditions, yellow indicates a warning (low) status, and red indicates empty or end of life. The three main security levels are Status, System and Service. The Status level will allow the user to access information concerning consumables, errors, usage, reports and trays. This level is available to all users. The System level gives the user the ability to modify the printer configuration, view job costs, change the sys-tem password and display current jobs. The Service area allows unrestricted access to the system configuration, counters, license keycodes and passwords on all levels.

The DDP MicroPress Server provides cluster serving solutions for production volume of 250,000 to 600,000 images per DDP 70e, per month. By offering features such as document creation with various numbering formats, chapter creation, easy job manipulation, mixing electronic and hardcopy originals, and cluster printing you will have a true printing power-house. The DDP 70e offers unprecedented media flexibility among printers in its price range. Manual covers on heavy stock, even tab dividers, can be print-ed from any main body tray, allowing you to generate sophisticated, integrated documents in a single pass. Paper sizes up to 12"x18", allow you to print full-bleed 11"x 17"/A3 layouts with trim marks, edge-to-edge printing at 600 x 600 dpi on any sup-ported media, and the standard 6,150 sheet input capacity assures uninterrupted printing of high-volume runs.

The RPSA custom, bi-directional Windows print drivers feature a graphical user interface (GUI) for unprecedented ease-of-use and maximum printer control right from your workstation. All major paper sizes can be stapled with up to a 50-sheet stapling capacity. Stacking capacity is 2,000 sheets with offset, plus 200 non-stapled sheets.
